I will figure it out!
This week’s reflection is attributed to the various organisations I worked with – some private and others public. An ongoing concern shared amongst the teams within these organisations was Imposter Syndrome. We all have times when we question what it is that we are doing and why we are doing it. This is perfectly normal!
One way to work through Imposter Syndrome is to reflect on our mindset. As Carol Dweck (2019) outlined, a growth mindset involves thinking about possibilities positively and constructively. This also means that we “figure it out” by taking small, well-thought-out steps to achieve what we hope to achieve.
Having a growth mindset also means having the courage to seek the help you need. Brene Brown (2022), in her book, The Gifts of Imperfection, she highlights that embracing what challenges us is often the pathway forward.
As we approach the end of the year and reflect on what has been, I invite you to think about those moments and situations where you had to ”figure it out”. What attitudes, attributes, and support did you access to help you work through problems? How can you grow your mindset and strategies to address Imposter Syndrome in 2024?
